Troubleshooting

Command-Space needs two presses or does not work

Section titled “Command-Space needs two presses or does not work”

Follow Replace Spotlight to remove shortcut conflicts caused by Spotlight or Input Sources, then select ⌘ Space again in Settings….

If ⌘ Space is unavailable, Floodlight keeps ⌥ Space registered and explains the conflict in setup.

Downloads, Desktop, or Documents are missing

  1. Confirm Floodlight is installed at /Applications/Floodlight.app.
  2. Open Settings… from the menu-bar flashlight and click Grant access beside Full Disk Access.
  3. Enable Floodlight in the System Settings pane that opens. If it is not listed, click + and add /Applications/Floodlight.app first.
  4. Return to Floodlight and press ⇧ ⌘ R. If the permission is not yet reflected, quit and reopen Floodlight once, then rebuild again.

Changing the search scope with ⌘ L can also exclude part of the home folder. Choose your home folder again if needed.

Permission requests return after an update

Section titled “Permission requests return after an update”

Replace the existing /Applications/Floodlight.app with the downloaded copy. Do not launch Floodlight from the DMG, Downloads, or a development build directory; moving the app after approval can make macOS ask again.

Floodlight searches standard application folders and apps inside the selected search scope.

  • If the app was just installed in a standard application folder, open the Floodlight panel and search again. Newly installed apps appear without a restart.
  • If it lives elsewhere, confirm that its folder is inside the scope shown by the menu-bar menu, is readable, and is not under an ignored or hidden path. Then press ⇧ ⌘ R.
  • Install the latest Floodlight release if Finder or another built-in app does not appear.

Press ⇧ ⌘ R to rebuild the file index. If a selected custom scope no longer exists, choose a readable folder with ⌘ L.

Download the latest DMG, drag Floodlight to Applications, and open that copy. If macOS rejects the download, remove it and download the DMG again from the Floodlight GitHub release.
